8 Belgische atleten op WK G-baanwielrennen
Van 20 tot en met 24 maart vinden op de Olympische wielerbaan in Rio de Janeiro de wereldkampioenschappen G-baanwielrennen plaats. Acht atleten en één piloot zullen er ons land vertegenwoordigen en willen schitteren op wereldniveau.
Meer dan 260 renners uit bijna 40 landen zullen de komende dagen in actie schieten in de Velódromo Municipal do Rio (Brazilië), die voor het laatst in 2018 een WK G-wielrennen ontving. Voor België komen acht atleten en één piloot in actie.
“Het is de eerste keer dat we met zo’n grote groep renners aan de wereldkampioenschappen baanwielrennen deelnemen”, zegt Remko Meeusen.
"Dit is een belangrijke fase in onze voorbereidingen voor de Paralympische Spelen in Parijs aanstaande zomer, want je kan dit als de grote generale repetitie voor onze atleten beschouwen. Bovendien kunnen we op dit evenement ook waardevolle punten verzamelen met oog op het verkrijgen van plaatsen voor de Spelen. Ik ben erg benieuwd en ongeduldig om het resultaat te zien, na wintervoorbereidingen die goed verliepen. Wat de verwachtingen betreft is het altijd koffiedik kijken hoe de andere landen voor de dag zullen komen.”
